Filing period ends, local races develop

By the end of the filing period at 5 p.m. Wednesday, two races developed in Jackson County, one for County Commissioner District One, and the other for Jackson County Treasurer.

Democratic incumbent Dale Dunn has filed for re-election for District One County Commissioner with Republican Marty Clinton filing against him.

The other race that developed is for Jackson County Treasurer with three filing for the office. They are Democrats Sandra S. Anderson of Blair, Robin Fleming of Elmer, and Republican Renee Howard of Headrick. Democratic incumbent Janet Wright did not file for re-election.

County Commissioner for District Three, Cary Carrell, has filed for re-election, as has Democratic incumbent Gerald Sherrill for Jackson County Assessor.

District Attorney John Wampler filed Monday with the State Election Board seeking re-election for District Three. Also filing were Republican incumbents State District 38 Senator Mike Schulz and District 52 State Representative Charles Ortega of Altus.

Deadline is 5 p.m. this Friday for withdraws and contesting of candidacy.
