Mayor T.L. Gramling signed a proclamation Monday to paint Altus purple for the week of June 14-19. This is a promotional for American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Jackson County. The event will be held at the Altus Jr. High, Marshall Field on Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19. Purple is the color of the shirt that the cancer survivors wear at the Relay. It is also the general color of the ribbon representing cancer.

The Relay for Life Committee appreciates all the donations and support of Relay For Life and are asking that each business decorate their windows in purple, advertise the Relay on marquees, allow them to put a sign in front, or do whatever possible to help get people out on June 18, starting at 6 p.m. for entertainment, fun, food and activities for all ages. The fun won't end until 7 a.m. on June 19.
