ALTUS — A Better Youth Foundation will be raising monies needed to construct an Ultimate Sports Facility complex that will double as a disaster shelter for Jackson County. This complex will produced jobs and bring excitement to southwest Oklahoma.

Brandon Bryant, professional mix martial arts instructor for the Brandon Mix Martial Art Studio, said of his team, “There probably some of the best mix martial arts amateurs you’ll see locally,” adding that A Better Youth Foundation will be recruiting boxers from ages 8 and up.

Anthony Simpson, of SHARPMOUTH ENTERTAINMENT LLC, is the General Manager for the company, and will be helping A Better Foundation with promoting this upcoming event.

“It’s a great way for youth to get involved in the sports because of all they gain from the work,” said Simpson, “People think they’re trying to get frustrations and anger out, but that’s not the case. It teaches them discipline.”

While membership for ABYF Boxing Club is $60 a year, the program cost is $100 a month. Training, equipment and traveling is involved and can be expensive, which is why events like this one schedule at Quartz Mountain Resort serve as a fundraising venture that will help offset the costs.

“We try to take the burden of financial responsibility off the parents. Our group is very excited about having this event at Quartz Mountain Resort. We plan on having performances from local artist and a cash drawing at the event; we’ve been talking with business about sponsoring youth with a $60 donation to pay for youth membership fees for insurance and other benefits,” Tim Wilson President of A Better Youth Foundation said.

“We are currently looking for sponsors and vendors that would be interested in participating at our event; it’s a different and exciting event for us. … Mixed Martial Arts is very popular in Oklahoma. I’ve been to other gyms around and it is literally hundreds of kids that have their own boxing team, but with the closures of community centers, there are so fewer opportunities now. But it’s still a pretty popular sport.”

They will have 10 bouts of amateur and professional mixed martial arts that will be sanctioned by the Oklahoma State Boxing Commission; a 24’ x 24’ (6) sided (2) doors 24’ panel to panel cage will be brought in, and there will be VIP seating around the ring for S.M.E. Black Card members, sponsors and guest of ABYF. Seating for general admission will cost $25-$30, parking is limited to 250 at the resort, so the first 250 pre-sold tickets will be able to park at the event

Proceeds from this event will go to construction cost of ABYF Multi-Sports Complex along with youth programs and training.Tickets will be available July 1, 2010. For more information about S.M.E. Black Card, sponsoring or vending at this event please call (580) 649-0354 or email fightingforabetteryouth@live.com
