The purpose of the visit was to provide a thorough evaluation of base infrastructure in support of the possibility of basing up to 37 MC-12W aircraft on the installation.
The team worked with 22 personnel from Altus Air Force Base, who proudly showcased the capabilities of the base and the local community.
After two days of detailed assessments, the team left Altus assured that the installation is fully capable of supporting this important mission. The team concluded Altus remains a strong contender for MC-12W basing, based on multiple factors to include airspace, facilities, and proximity to joint training ranges.
The Altus team worked very closely with Army Lt Col Anthony Demasi, from the Joint and Combined Integration Directorate at Fort Sill, to present the synergy of utilizing Altus Air Force Base and the Army’s Ft. Sill training complex and Falcon Range. The coordinated effort provided essential information to the Air Combat Command team on the support capabilities provided by the military bases in the Southwest Oklahoma region.
The Air Combat Command MC-12W basing team will complete evaluations at other contending installations and present a written report to the 97th Air Mobility Wing Commander by mid-July. The Air Force expects to make a preliminary decision on MC-12W basing by the end of August.
Further information will be released as it becomes available. Questions should be directed to the Altus AFB Public Affairs office at (580) 481-7700.
