Eagle watches have started at Quartz Mountain since bald eagles are coming to Oklahoma to find unfrozen water.

Sue Hokanson of the Quartz Mountain Nature Park said that cold weather is better for eagle watching because the birds need to eat more frequently to stay warm. “So eagles are found most often right along the lakeshore,” she said. “Warm weather like this past weekend has the eagles soaring high in the sky, riding the thermals above the mountains.”

Trout fishermen- have you purchased your new trout stamp? Because trout stamps are

good for a calendar year, with the New Year comes the need to buy another trout

stamp. The stamp you pay for this week will be good for the remainder of this

season and the beginning of the next season in November.

The Department of Wildlife's bird count starts Friday, January 11th and concludes

Monday January 14th. The bird count is a great way to give the fine folks at ODWC a

helping hand. Helping is really quite simple, just choose any two days during from

January 11 to January 14 to watch and record the birds at your winter feeders. All

the details can be found by visiting http://www.okwinterbirds.com/survey.html.

Also happening this coming weekend, is Quartz Mountain Nature Park's public meeting

on the Eagle's Roost ATV Area. The meeting starts promptly at 10:00AM Saturday

January 12th at the Lodge. Anyone interested in the use of ATV's at Quartz Mountain

should attend this important meeting.
