lose heartbreaker

CLINTON - Coach David Prickett and the Altus High Lady Bulldogs must feel like if they didn't have bad luck, they wouldn't have any luck at all.

The Lady Bulldogs could not get the shots to fall on Thursday night and lost a 33-32 heartbreaker to the Clinton Lady Reds in the first round of the Clinton Interbank Basketball Tournament.

Altus was trailing 33-29 late in the game but a basketball by Kiondra Harris made a basket to cut the deficit to 33-31 with 2:40 remaining. A free throw by Taren Ray cut it to 33-32 with 1:10 left. With 25 seconds Clinton's Kayleigh Mitchell missed the front in of a one-and-one free throw opportunity to give Altus a chance to pull the game out.

Prickett called time out with 16 seconds left to plot strategy. The play went inside to Taren Ray whose shot rimmed off at the buzzer.

Clinton led most of the way during the game. Altus had brief leads in both the first and third quarters.

It was Ray and Harris who supplied most of the offense for the Lady Bulldogs. They scored 26 of the 32 points. Ray had 14 points and Harris 12 points.

Altus (3-7) will play Noble was to have played Noble in the consolation round at 1 p.m. today.
