Listena Prickett of Altus Jr. High School received the coveted Teacher of the Year award for the 2007-2008 school year during the regular school board meeting Tuesday night.

The board also recognized the eight other district finalists--Lorie Stovall of Rivers Elementary; Tawna Shultz of Roosevelt Elementary; Beverly Johnson of Sunset Elementary; Linda Goodin of Washington Elementary; Kimberly Allen of Will Rogers Elementary; Melisa Parsons of Altus Intermediate School; Cindy Bailey of Altus High School and Robert Bostic of Eugene Field for there exemplary efforts for the current school year.

Bob Drury, Altus Public Schools Superintendent, pointed out that although Sue Newland would no longer serve as coordinator for the Salvation Army/Altus Public Schools' Annual Christmas Food Drive, she still needed to be thanked for 20 years of outstanding service.

Drury also noted that Altus had two school sites among the only 16 recognized from throughout the whole state for Academic Achievement-Sunset and Rivers Elementary Schools.

Each certified teacher at Sunset will receive $3,000 rewards from the State, and Rivers' certified personnel will receive $1,000 each.

All other agenda items passed unanimously, including accepting bids for a metal roof for Booker (South) and Roosevelt Elementary (P.E. Building), as well as approving to amend current policy regarding inclement weather warning systems.
