Complete details about an accident that happened at 12:15 a.m. today were not available at presstime, but according to witnesses, a man driving an Al Claunch Ent. private contract courier mini van, left the Veterans Drive roadway and hit the wall around Altus Air Force Base at a high rate of speed.

The rebar, or steel reinforcement inside the concrete wall, acted much like a rubber band would and tossed the van back about 20 feet.

Both Altus Police and Base Security responsed to the accident.

Police Chief Mike Patterson said that EMS was not called to the accident.
