The Altus High School swim teams competed well at the Cassady-McGuiness Invitation.
The boys were seventh in a field of 15 teams while the girls were 10th in a field of 15 teams. There were 350 athletes swimming at the competition.
Justina Violette was the top place finisher for the girls with a third place in the 100 fly and a state qualifying time of 1:05.83. She also had a state time in the 100 back and placed fourth.
Michael Chaki was the top finisher for the boys with a state qualifying score of 261/90 in the diving competition. Ryan Reddick qualified for state in the 200 free with a 2:00.94, which earned him sixth place. He also place fifth in the 500 free with a state time of 5:27.46.
Other individual personal best times were swam by Linda Nolley in the 200 free and the 100 breast; Talia Case in the 200 free and the 100 breast; Jessica Roy in the 200 free and the 500 free; Chris Cheaney in the 200 free and the 500 free; Chris McMahon in the 200 free and 100 back; Jessica Orlando in the 100 back and the 100 free; Jessica Lyga in the 100 breast and the 200 individual medley; E.J. Bacon in the 100 breast and Cody Charles in the 100 breast.
“I was so proud of how everyone dropped time at this meet,” coach Linda Wiginton said. “We compete against Duncan Thursday and then we have a Southern Conference Championship on Jan. 31 in Lawton. This is the right time for the swimmers to drop time as we prepare for the state competition.”
