ALTUS AFB - All natural gas lines in the Altus Air Force Base housing area are currently being switched over to service provided by CenterPoint Energy of Altus. As part of the changeover, gas lines are pressurized and tested for leaks.

According base officials, at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, test equipment showed that a pressurized line was not holding the specified pressure. CenterPoint specialists and GMH, the privatized housing contractor for AAFB, located an isolated leaking valve and stopped the leak.

During the response, nearby residents were told to remain indoors, because at cold temperatures, natural gas fumes are slow to dissipate.

The response ended at about 9:30 p.m. No structures or homes were affected. It was an outdoor valve.
