Mr. Bruce was born to Robert Rando and Kate Vera (Miller) Bruce on Oct. 27, 1930. He attended and graduated from Olustee High School in 1948. James served in the Army at the rank of Tech Sgt. He married Kathryn Fry on May 25, 1956, in Mid West City. He was a longtime member of the Heritage Oaks Church of the Nazarene in Duncan where he served as an usher. James worked as district and regional manager for the NL Acme Tool Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1985. After retirement he enjoyed restoring antiques and playing golf.
James is preceded in death by his parent; one brother, Bobby Bruce; and one sister, Virginia Hatton.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of the home; two sons, Steven Bruce and wife Cyndie of Elk City, and Randy Bruce and his wife Lynda of Altus; sisters, Reba Drury and husband LaWayne of Olustee, and Ramona Gramling and husband Leo of Newcastle; sister-in-law, Emma Lou Bruce of Olustee; three grandchildren, Jaymi Rooks and her husband Mathew of Wilkesborough, N.C., Sara Pitts and her husband Robert of Altus, and Jessica Bruce of Elk City; and three great -grandchildren, Brailee Rooks, Lailyn Rooks and Carl Wayne Pitts.
The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Kincannon's.
