Shirley L. Martin, 70, of Altus, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with Deb Teagan officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Shirley L. Martin was born March 21, 1937, in Bastrop, La., to Jack and Jewel (Underwood) Young. She attended school in Arkansas City, Ark. She married Charles M. Roberts in 1953 in Arkansas City. Shirley was an independent truck driver for about 10 years. She worked for the Maybeline Corporation and retired in 1998 as a clerk for the Conoco Corporation, both while living in Arkansas. She was a Christian all her life and had attended First United Methodist Church in Altus. She loved gardening, reading, science fiction and football.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Roberts; brothers, Gerald and Jackie Young; and sister, Joy Dale Slaven.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Michael Roberts and wife Emilie of Elkins, Ark., Kenneth and Danny Roberts, both of Dewitt, Ark.; two daughters, Rebecca McMall and husband Steve of Altus, and Loretta Conway of Murrieta, Calif.; one sister, Linda Derscheid and husband Robert (Red) of Wiggins, Miss.; one brother, Maxie Don Young of California; eight grandchildren, Michelle Roberts of Elkins, Ark., Christopher McMall of Altus, Christopher, Jeremy, Kenneth and Ricky Roberts of Kokomo, Ind., Lexi and Dakota Conway of Murrieta, Calif.; four great-grandchildren of Kokomo; and many loving relatives and wonderful friends.
