Carolyn Sue Peevey-Clark, 54, of Mangum, ran off the roadway for an unknown reason Saturday, causing an accident that sent her by Air-Evac to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas, in serious condition.

According to reports, the accident happened at 11:55 a.m. two miles west and 3 1/2 miles north of Altus on a county road in Jackson County.

Clark’s 1992 Ford pickup left the roadway to the left for 183 feet, went airborne for 24 feet and struck an embankment, flipped end over end and came to rest on the driver’s side. The driver was pinned between the seat and the steering wheel for about 45 minutes and had to be freed by the Jaws of Life by the Altus Fire Department.

She reportedly had head and leg injuries.

Trooper Dirk Hamon of the Greer County detachment of the Highway Patrol investigated the accident and was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Altus Fire Department and Jackson County EMS.
