The Altus Board of Education did a little “house cleaning” in its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday in the board conference room at the administrative center.
Superintendent Bob Drury encouraged board members to attend the annual OSSBA/CCOSA conference and exposition in August that will take place at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
The board unanimously approved all agenda items for the evening, including approving an auditing firm to conduct the FY 2008 audit.
Summer maintenance projects and employment of personnel to conduct such projects, as well as extended school year personnel and budget also got a go ahead.
Personnel for summer school, the driver’s education summer program, and the summer pride strength and conditioning program received approval, in addition to a list of 2008-09 contracts for support staff.
Accepting the recommendations of Mr. Drury, the board approved all retirements and resignations, and welcomed new hires for the upcoming school year.
Deanna Dennis will teach 6th grade language arts at Altus Intermediate School, while her husband, Derek Dennis will serve Altus High School as a coach and teacher for 9th-12th grade social studies.
Shearl Davis will assist 5th-6th grade Special Education at Altus Intermediate School.
Cassandra Carpenter, Wanda Murphy and Michele Sears were listed as the personnel recommendations for the 2007-2008 school year, which the board also approved.
