Leadership Altus is a program designed to seek out the finest leaders in Altus and prepare them for positions of public decision making. The purpose is to identify potential community leaders, acquaint such leaders with the city's continuing needs and problems.
The class offers these potential leaders alternate ways of dealing with these needs and problems and motivate potential leaders to be involved in the future development of our area.
Leadership Altus is a project of the Altus Community Foundation and the Altus Chamber of Commerce. A 21-member committee (action group) directs the program providing guidance on such matters as curriculum, programs, speakers and potential participants.
Leadership Altus is aimed at developing a pool of well-informed and well-motivated men and women qualified to assume present and future leadership roles in Altus. Leadership Altus seeks to develop community knowledge and leadership skills through a series of seven sessions. The sessions will focus on the following community topics: Altus Economy, Economic Development, City County State and Federal governments, Law Enforcement, Judicial system, Education, Health Care, Political Involvement, Legislative Awareness, Public Service Agencies, Communication Services, Arts & Humanities, Quality of life issues, Military and also highlighted in the program will be: Motivation, Human Relations, Time Management and Volunteerism.
Deadline for applications and nominations is Friday, August 1, 2008 with announcements of participants by Aug.15. Anyone may apply or nominate someone; however, official Leadership Altus nomination forms must be used. The Selection Committee selects forty (40) individuals from all segments of the community to participate. It is essential that the nominee be able to commit the time required to attend all sessions. The program is scheduled to begin in August, meeting one night a month through April of 2008. Tuition fee is $100 per participant. This covers a nominal part of the overall program costs. The balance of the program is underwritten through sponsors.
