Altus Police are still searching for a suspect in a June 11 shooting incident in which an Altus man was shot three times.

According to reports, around 2:30 a.m. that day a relative of the victim had sought information from a nurse on how to treat a gunshot wound. That tip led officers to the Falcon Inn and Suites at 2213 Falcon Road where they were directed to a room next door were Joshua Mealer was found to be suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital where he was treated.

According to reports, Mealer and two other people were in the room about 11:30 p.m. June 10 when the shooter busted into the room and started shooting.

“They all knew each other,” said Police Chief Mike Patterson. “It seems to be a domestic situation involving an estranged couple.”

An arrest warrant for suspect Carl Copeland has been issued, but to date, he has not been arrested. If anyone has information about Copeland’s whereabouts, they can contact the Altus Police Department at 482-4121.
