On May 20, a fight at Oklahoma State Reformatory left two inmates dead, Larry J. Morris, 24, and Tyrone W. Miller, 23. At that time, the facility was placed on lockdown until the incident could be investigated. The fight stemmed from a spitting incident three days earlier.

The Altus Times contacted Jerry Massie, prison spokesperson, for an update on the investigation. According to Massie, no charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. He does expect charges to be filed, but said investigations such as this can take a long time to complete. Massie said both the Department of Corrections’ Internal Affairs Division and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are involved.

Oklahoma State Reformatory is no longer on lockdown. Massie said that Eric Franklin, warden, said that some changes in procedure have occurred due to the murders. The main change is that the number of inmates allowed on the yard at one time has been reduced. Only one housing unit at a time is allowed.
