Altus Masonic Lodge Number 62 will hold a school of instructions or confer a degree at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 16. All Masons are urged to attend. The 1st annual Quartz Mountain Diamondback 100 (DBK100) will be held Saturday, July 19 in Altus. Bring the family and enjoy the beautiful Quartz Mountain area for the day or the weekend. The ride will start and finish at the Altus City Reservoir. There will be a 100 mile, 62 mile and 40 mile ride. There will also be a 10 mile family ride around the Altus Reservoir. The ride will start at 8 A.M. and transit the communities of Altus, Martha, Mangum, Granite, Lake Altus, Blair and Friendship. Registration is required. Lake Creek Baptist Church will have special services Sunday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. to observe its 120th anniversary. Former church members Dr. Phil Neighbors, now at Bakersfield, California, will preach and Dr. Joey Martin, now at Texas Stat University, San Marcos, Texas, will direct music. The church was founded on the 8th day of the 8th month of the year 1888. It is located 5 miles N and 2 miles W o Granite.

Red River Toastmasters will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at Club Altus, located on the Altus Air Force Base; and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, in the Francis Herron Seminar Center, at the Southwest Technology Center. The Altus Ballroom Dancers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday in the basement Blue Room of the Municipal Auditorium on East Commerce. During the month of July, Jill Kidd will teach basic salsa and dancers will review the other Latin dances. Couples of all ages are invited to come and learn new dance steps during the first hour and practice dancing the second hour. Admission is $5 per couple.
