Tim White, agriculture teacher at Tipton High School attended the Region II Summer Leadership Conference of the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE), June 15-18, in Jonnesboro, Arkansas.
Agriculture educators, teacher educators and state staff, from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas gathered for meetings, workshops, and tours that provided agricultural educators with professional development opportunities to strengthen local educational programs. Highlights of the meeting included sessions on partnerships between agricultural educators, agribusiness leaders and local, state and national policy makers.
“Having the opportunity to network with agricultural educators from diverse areas is just one opportunity that teachers have at the Region II NAAE convention,” says NAAE President Harold Eckler, Missouri. “Teachers attending the conference also get to experience unique professional development opportunities and interact with their professional organization at the regional level.”
Conference attendees also participated in professional development tours to agricultural related industries, improving teachers knowledge of trend in agriculture. The conference also included special award and recognition programs that recognized excellence in the agricultural education profession and business sessions that allowed state delegates to address organizational issues.
The NAAE mission is “professionals providing agricultural education for the global community through visionary leadership, advocacy and service.” NAAE has more than 7,800 members nationwide. The NAAE office is located in Lexington, Ky.
