The Frederick Bombers took on the Cache Bulldogs last Friday night at Bomber Bowl. It was homecoming and the Bombers were loaded for bear. Frederick needed a great game to keep up with the Bulldogs and the team gave Cache everything it could handle. The game didn’t go in the win column but it was still an outstanding effort by the Frederick Bombers. The Bombers outplayed Cache and lead almost the entire game but just couldn’t put it away. It was one of those games that left this reporter scratching his head. The final score reflected a Bulldog victory at 14-7.
The Bombers had more first downs, more rushing yardage and more yards through the air than Cache. In fact the Bombers amassed 200+ yards of total offense. Cache could manage less than a hundred yards against a fired up Bomber defense. Gabriel Pesina was 5 for 10 passing and threw one interception. Stephen Nelms led the Bomber rushers with a total of 79 yards. The most telling statistic was the four fumbles lost by the Bombers. The Bulldogs took full advantage of what was given them. The Bombers led 7-6 until late in the game when the Bulldogs mounted a drive to score and then completed the two-point conversion. The Bombers fall to 0-3 but should feel confident that this winless streak won’t last for long. Look for the Bombers to get a “W” in the near future.
GO BOMBERS!
