Dallas Thompson, 83, of Duke, formerly of Gould, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Hollis. Interment will follow at Gould Cemetery.

Dallas Aubrey Thompson was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Gould to Ed and Bula Sloan Thompson. He attended school in Gould, and served in the Navy during World War II. He and Wilma Odessa Moffeit were married April 1, 1944 in Hollis. Before moving to Hollis in 1974, they lived in Oregon for 18 years and in Arkansas for six years.

“Dal” was a very versatile person having been a cowboy, farmer, inventor, welder, blacksmith, electrician, mill wright and carpenter. He had a blacksmith shop in Gould and a sawmill in Eldorado. He worked constantly on new ideas and new inventions and belonged to the Oklahoma Inventors Congress. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the VFW American Legion. He enjoyed his family, building trailers, carpentry and wood working, living, laughing and loving.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma of Duke; four sons, Tommie and his wife Mimi Thompson of Pace Fla., Lynn and his wife Kim Thompson of Hollis, Eddie and his wife Kathy Thompson of Duke, and Dale and his wife Ranee Thompson of Springfield, Ore.; two daughters, Barbara and her husband Hank Walp of Springfield, Ore., and Jackie Thompson of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Zelia McCurtain of Roseburg, Ore., and Viola Himes of Talala; two brothers, L. V. Thompson of Roseburg, and Emory Thompson of Houston; 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Altus Thompson; and one sister, Myrtle Thompson.
