Farm tours set for Wednesday as part of Farm City Week activities

Farm City Week recognizes the importance of those agriculture related businesses and those involved in farming and ranching in our area. Chamber President Holley Urbanski said, “We like to show our appreciation for the economic impact farming and ranching have on our local area.”

The first activity this week will be held tomorrow with Farm Tours beginning at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This year tours will be held at the Cotton Grower's Co-op, Altus Peanut Warehouse, and Robbie Robbins Farming Operation.

There will also be a Farmers Appreciation Lunch held tomorrow as well as Tractor Driving at the Jackson County Expo Center hosted by Livingston Machinery and Western Equipment.

Approximately 150 people will participate in the tours. The theme "Farming, Flying and Community - The Pillars of Southwest Oklahoma" will be utilized for all activities during Farm City Week .

The Farm City Week Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Altus High School Cafetorium. Tickets for the banquet are on sale for $20 per person. Entertainment for the banquet will be Country Western signer Mikayla Jo Balderas. Caterer for this event is Great Western Dining.

The evening banquet highlighting the importance of Agriculture to our economic base, will be very entertaining with Maurice King serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Tickets are available at many locations throughout the county including: Public Affairs Office, Altus Air Force Base; AgPreference; Cotton Grower's Gin; Farmer's Merchants Bank; First National Bank; First State Bank; Humphrey's Coop Gin; KEYB Radio; KWHW Radio; MidFirst Bank; NBC; Sharmrock Bank; Stockmans Bank; Western Equipment, Livingston Machinery.

Eddie Wilcoxen and Dick Fontana from KWHW Radio will present the "Legends of Agriculture Award at the banquet followed by a special presentation from Colonel David Allvin, Commander, 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus AFB.

The final event this year will be held Nov. 14, when Colonel David Allvin will host a FARM CITY WEEK ORIENTATION FLIGHT from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. The base is planning a great flight on a C-17 and/or a KC-135. Invitations are in the mail to those farmers, ranchers and business people invited to participate in the flight.

Tickets are available for the luncheon and banquet at the Altus Chamber of Commerce, local banks and various locations. Call the Altus Chamber at 482-0210 to sign up for the tours or orientation flights.
