Have a Cotton Pick’n Good Time in Frederick!

It’s time for the Chamber’s Cotton Festival and Chili Cook-Off, which will be this Sat, November 8th, 2008, from 10:00am until 3:00pm at the Pioneer Heritage Townsite and Tillman County Courthouse Square. New this year is the Chamber’s Chili Cook Off. Voting will be done by the public, tickets will be sold for $5.00 which will include chili samples, then all you can eat from your favorite chili cooker! In addition, the Chamber will offer Corn Dogs cooked in cottonseed oil, Popcorn, Cotton Candy, biscuits cooked in cottonseed oil, and Caramel Apples.

Other cotton festival activities will include: Pioneer games for children, cotton crafts, a cake walk (11am- 2pm), bingo with prizes (12 noon -2pm), Farm Equipment, Tractor and educational displays (all day), door prizes (1pm-3pm), live entertainment (11 am-3pm), and tours of the Red River Cotton Gin and the Oklahoma Cotton Cooperative Association Cotton Texoma Warehouse (starting at 10:15am).

Also that day, in honor of Veteran’s day, a Veteran's recognition Ceremony conducted by the Frederick Boy Scouts will be held on the stage at 11:30am. Dean Newville will also perform a patriotic song to honor the Veterans.

The Live entertainment will kick off at 11am with Wichita Mountain Bluegrass, followed by the Veterans Ceremony. Then Shana Morris will take the stage and share her talent, followed by the Little Miss Cotton Boll and Maid of Cotton Pageants starting at 1pm. There will be some very special ladies serving as judges for the pageants, be sure to come out and say hello to them (and maybe even get an autograph!).

The Chamber’s Cotton Festival is in conjunction with the Pioneer Townsite Museum’s”Seed to Sew” program. The”Seed to Sew” Program covers cotton picking, ginning, carding, spinning, weaving and sewing. It also features exhibitions of cotton farming from the early 20th century, including a mini-cotton gin. Come pick your own cotton from the field growing in the Townsite, and learn all about this important crop!

That evening the “Dancing with the Stars” Miss Frederick Pageant will take place at the Fine Arts Auditorium starting at 7:30pm. This year’s pageant is a special one, at it’s the 30th anniversary of the pageant, and many former Miss Frederick’s will be visiting and performing.

Monday, November 10th, Frederick Rotary Club’s Annual Mexican Dinner, Prather Brown Center, 5pm- 7:30 pm.

Saturday, December 6th, Mikayla Jo Country Christmas Show, 7pm, Historical Ramona Theater

Also, don’t forget the Frederick Community Phone Books are complete, and ready for pick up

at the Frederick Chamber Office! Businesses and individuals who pre-ordered books may pick up books

at 100 S Main from 10 am until 12 noon, and 1pm until 5pm. There are still plenty of books for sale; cost is only $5.00 per book.
