The public is invited to attend the annual Country Kitchen Christmas bazaar at the First United Methodist Church in Altus beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

This fun annual event will feature delectable holiday foods for sale at the North Pole Bakery and Mrs. Claus’ Candy Shoppe. They include fudge, Aunt Bill’s candy, pies, banana bread, pumpkin bread, jams, frozen casseroles, salad dressings, sugar free pastries, petits fours, sausage balls, Swedish tea rings, homemade salsas, chutneys, pinwheel date cookies, soup mixes, Italian cream cakes, and peanut brittle.

A delicious lunch of Pride of the Prairie Stew, Circuit Rider’s Best Beans, Methodist Cornbread, and World Famous Peach Cobbler will be served at the Calico Soup Nook. Take-out will be available.

Two quilts will be offered at the event, three baby quilts and a Christmas wall hanging.

“Starry Prairie Path” quilt was pieced and donated by Martha Raley of Elmer. A double quilt, it is constructed of traditional stars in pastel colors.

Sold by sealed bid is a queen quilt titled “Blue Sky over the Wichitas.” It evokes the blue Oklahoma sky and the spring landscape of the Wichita Mountains. Bids will be received at the event and opened at 1 p.m.

Members of the First United Methodist Quilting Bee quilted all the tops.

The Country Kitchen project has contributed to local needs such as Habitat for Humanity, Community Cupboard, Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving dinner, Altus Firefighters’ Coats for Kids project, local utilities assistance program, Great Plains Literacy Council, Salvation Army school clothes collection, Red Cross, and Altus Air Force Base Family Assistance, Altus Air Force Base First Shirts Association, Altus storm relief, Hurricane Ike storm relief, Oklahoma Methodist Circle of Care, Bolivian Methodist Pastors Fund and other Methodist philanthropies and missions.
