The Titans erased any doubt quickly. They used all of their weapons and cruised to an easy 48-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
Junior quarterback J.T Realmuto threw four touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Titans.
Actually the game started just like coach Lyn Hepner would have wanted it to. The Bulldogs kicked off and forced Carl Albert into a three and out and got good field position on their first drive.
“We stopped them twice, it started out like we wanted it two,” Hepner said.
But that was about the only highlight of the night for the Bulldogs. Altus had stopped Carl Albert on its second possession but a personal foul, late hit penalty got Carl Albert started. They drove 95 yards for a score and that was the beginning of five consecutive possessions that would end up with Carl Albert touchdowns.
The Bulldogs did a reasonably good job in containing star runnning back David Oku. They held him to under 100 yards rushing (20 carries for 95 yards). He did not break a long cross country run but he was the recipient of Realmuto screen pass that he turned into an 81-yard scoring play.
Realmuto’s four touchdown passes went to four different receivers. His seven completions on the night went to seven different receivers.
The Titans 65 snaps and and 472 yards in total offense.
The Bulldogs couldn’t get anything going offensively. They managed only 60 yards in offense.
‘We saw two different teams tonight,” Hepner said. “We saw the team that played with them slugged with them (early in the game). But we had some adversity happen and all of a sudden we went into our shell. We didn’t deal very well the adversity. That’s going to apply in life. The last thing I told them (the seniors) that what you need to get out of this is that bad things happen in your life. You can’t be a different person, you can’t be discouraged. You have to suck it up and go on.”
