awarded for county bridge replacements

The residents of Jackson County will soon enjoy two new bridges thanks to a contract recently awarded by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), according to Sen. Mike Schulz.

According to ODOT, the project will involve replacing two county road bridges near the US-62/US-283 junction. One bridge is about seven miles southeast of the junction over an unnamed creek and the other is about nine miles northwest of the junction over Horse Creek.

"Our legislature's continuing commitment to improving the conditions of our state's transportation infrastructure is evident by awarding contracts such as this one," said Schulz, R-Altus. "I look forward to even more projects and improvements in the future."

The State Transportation Commission awarded a contract for nearly $700,000 to Sewell Brothers Incorporated of Oklahoma City, which was the lowest of five bidders. Once construction begins, the project is estimated to be completed within seven months.
