They led by as much as 20 points in the second half but had to turn to the free throw line to hold off an Elgin rally and defeat the Owls 58-49.
Elgin scored 27 points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough.
Altus led 53-47 with one minute left. Three free throws by Michelle Marcha and two by Meagan Steen secured the victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
Janelle Durrough led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points which included two 3-point baskets. Malorie Vaughan had three 3-pointers and 14 points while Kiondra Harris had 11 points.
Kiara Pyfer scored 18 points to lead Elgin.
It was the first loss for Elgin, the 12th ranked team in Class 4A.
Altus, ranked 10th in Class 5A, is now 2-0.
