More reports of home burglaries have been reported to Altus Police, and authorities are saying there are at least three different groups of suspects.
Police Chief Mike Patterson said that many of the burglaries are being committed during the daylight hours, usually around noon day.
One victim of a home burglary on North Hudson said that she came home while the burglars were still in her home. She said she ran to the bathroom and called the police. When the burglars realized someone else was in the house, they ran out the back door. The woman said that her home was completely ransacked, they even went through her refrigerator and got them something to eat. After police arrived, she found their computers and other items piled on the back porch waiting to be taken off all at once.
Patterson said the best way to deter these types of thefts is for neighbors to be on the lookout for anyone or anything suspicious and call the police immediately.
One burglary victim was told by her insurance agent that some of the thieves were dressed as home repairmen.
Residents are urged to take extra precautions against burglaries by keeping all doors and windows locked. Police also say that burglars like darkness, so security lights, porch lights and other ways to keep intruders away from your home are urged.
