Early morning shooting in Wal-Mart parking lot

Altus Police responded to a call at 1:32 a.m. today to a shooting in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

According to reports, an Altus Police officer was near the scene and heard shots fired, and observed a vehicle fleeing the scene.

As the officer gave chase to the fleeing vehicle, other officers arrived on the scene and found 28-year-old Cory Moore of Garland, Texas, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his leg.

Moore was taken by EMS to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The subject fleeing the scene abandoned their vehicle in the parking lot of Best Western Hotel and fled the area on foot.

A perimeter was established by police around the hotel and the adjacent area for about a 1/2 mile square area.

At 3:36 a.m., a person of interest, identified as Coy Lee Alexander of Lawton, was taken into custody after he was found hiding inside the hotel.

A second person, who abandoned the vehicle, has not yet been located.

The investigation is still ongoing, with Altus Police assisted by members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Greer County Sheriff’s Office.
