After the August 6 date, the Market will shift into a regular meeting time of Tuesdays from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., both at the Altus Plaza Shopping Center.
While it has been some time since Altus has had a Farmers Market it is back underway again. The community is encouraged to come by and visit the Market one of these two days. Vendors that are interested in selling at the Market must first join the Altus Farmers Market Association. Membership forms can be found at the Jackson County OSU Extension Office Web-Site: oces.okstate.edu/jackson. Once at this web-site select Horticulture, then Altus Farmers Market and the forms will be located there for print. Interested vendors are also welcome to come by the OSU Extension Office and pick up a form. Membership fees are $10 annually. For the first two - four scheduled market times a special grace period is extended to producers who may just show up at the market wanting to sell.
A form will be given to them and as long as they meet the current requirements of the association and are willing to join they will be allowed to sell at the Market. However, after these two - four times producers must have their membership form on file prior to selling at the market.
This is an exciting opportunity for both community patrons and those growing larger gardens who would like a place to sell their produce. It is indeed a win-win situation! While the market is new and will go through its growth process and adjustments will most likely have to be made in various areas such as times for the Market it is now up and running. So, be sure to stop by, buy some produce, visit with the vendors and let them know what you like, and leave us your suggestions.
