Paul Raymond Sims, 46, was formally charged yesterday with second-degree rape, but Sims said he did it in his sleep.

Police say that the parents of a 15-year-old girl reported that Sims had raped her twice earlier this month.

Asst. Chief of Police Mike Turner said that after receiving the report, a crime scene was established, evidence was collected and interviews were conducted with both the victim and the suspect.

The girl said that she was sleeping in Sims' bed the morning of Sunday, Aug. 8 when she was assaulted. The teen told police that she didn’t resist Sims out of fear of violence.

When Sims was interviewed by Altus Police Monday, he admitted to having sex with the girl once, but said he thought it was a dream and that he stopped when he realized it was reality.

“The interviews resulted in the arrest and charges filed,” Turner said.
