Elizabeth Wallace, 2010-2011 IFA president, presented to the Board, briefly regarding IFA matters and her Fulbright Scholars experience in Israel.
Lisa Greenlee, vice president for academic and student support services, reported that Western will be sending a report to the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools regarding the strategic plan and budget. This report is a follow up to the HLC accreditation visit from 2008.
Vice President of Alumni Relations and Development, Larry Duffy thanked faculty, staff, the Board and the Altus community for the support received for the 20th annual Jim Holland Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament was held Saturday, Aug. 14, with 75 golfers participating. This year’s event raised $11,000, totaling over $180,000 in scholarship funds over the past 20 years.
Chrystal Overton, dean of technical education, reported briefly on Western’s nursing program and their efforts to continue connections and partnerships with surrounding medical centers.
Greenlee reported that 2010 summer semester enrollment had grown over the past year, showing an increase of 79.21%. She attributed the growth to the wide array of online classes and intersession courses available and to the tremendous efforts of the faculty in their face-to-face classes.
In personnel matters, the Board approved the resignations of Sheila La Ferney, student store manager; Holli Hurst, business support services coordinator; Billy Owens, maintenance; Pam Booker, director of POWER program; Marvella Starlin, freshman nursing instructor – Lawton; and Bruce Wiese, part-time director of facilities & public safety. The Board also approved the employment of Elizabeth Stephens-Greenwood as Nursing Clinical Coordinator, Brenda Phillips as Freshman Nursing Instructor, and Dr. John Winters as Dean of Arts and Sciences. In addition, the Board approved the promotion of Kass Deweese to the position of interim store manager, and the assignment of Ruth Mesa to secretary of the physical plant.
The next Board of Regents meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 pm.
