Rebecca Ann Chaparro, 25, was arrested earlier this week on charges of lewd molestation and is being held at the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. She made her initial appearance in Jackson County District Court yesterday.

Chaparro is said to have molested her six-year-old son while giving him a bath at their home on North Park Lane earlier this summer.

The Department of Human Services had received a welfare tip that the woman and son was staying at the home of an Altus man with a past history of sexual abuse.

The boy told DHS workers about the incident and mother confessed to the crime, but said she stopped the assault after five minutes when the boy asked her to.

The boy has since been taken into DHS custody, and a preliminary hearing for Chaparro has been set for Monday, Sept. 20.
