A call came in to Altus Police at 2:22 p.m., Monday afternoon that a vehicle had hit a student at the Bulldog Lane and North Park Lane intersection.

According to Valerie Roberts, APR Director of Public Relations for Altus Public Schools, vehicles were stopped at the crosswalk at the intersection to allow students to cross. One of the students who had already crossed the street was said to have darted back across. It was at that time that the driver of the vehicle on the inside lane thought the crosswalk was clear and started to proceed, bumping the student. The driver then took the student to the school office to be checked out.

Roberts said that the student was not at school today and was reported to be a little sore.

Roberts urges motorists on North Park Lane to be aware they are in a school zone and that students cross this street in several locations. “Hopefully we won’t have these type of incidents after our new building is completed,” Roberts said.
