Sedrick Sanders, 33, has pled guilty in the death of Hai Phan, according to Ken Darby, prosecuting attorney. Sanders admitted shooting Phan in a robbery-gone wrong on May 31, 2009. Sanders received a sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.

Phan and his friends Dung Phan and Han Dang were robbed after meeting a group of people at Scooters. Sanders was one of five defendants in the case. He was arrested by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, July 1, 2009, after he had fled from Altus. Three other defendants face felony murder charges in the case: Patrick Robinson, 28, Michelle Calvert, 35, and Marquis Dorsey, 25. They also face conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery charges. Dominique Lindsey, 23, is up for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery charges. Calvert had also fled Altus and was arrested in Childress, Texas.

According to testimony by Tommy Uptergrove, of the Altus Police Department, Sanders confessed to shooting the unarmed Phan, in the back with a "9", (a 9 millimeter handgun). Sanders' portion of the robbery proceeds was $600 which he took from the three victims wallets. He told Uptergrove he threw the wallets away in the trash behind his aunt's house in Altus.
