For the Super Kids Marathon, students log in their 25 miles of running and walking before the marathon and then they run/walk the last 1.2 miles on race day. To be entered in the drawing for the grand prize, students had to apply for the marathon by Oct. 1.
KSWO-TV, Channel 7 in Lawton sponsors their School Fitness Challenge. They award various cash prizes to participating schools in categories based on the size of their student body. ACA's 1st place for small schools earned them a $500 prize.
According to the Spirit of Survival web site, www.spiritofsurvival.com, the SOS 2010 was the largest, with 2,200 race participants. In addition to the Super Kids Marathon, the Spirit of Survival includes the Leah M. Fitch Spirit Walk, and the Superhero 5K (3.1 mile) USATF Certified "ChampionChip" timed race.

Youth representing Altus in the 5K race were: Jordan Riffle, 8, with a time of 42:34, placed second in the Female 1 through 8 years old category. Talayna Petzold, 11, with a time of 43:04, placed 9th in the Female 9 to 12 category. In the Male, 13 to 15 year old category, Garrett Roy,15, placed 4th with a time of 23:42 and Matt Cole, 13, placed 11th with 33:48.
Two Altus runners placed 1st place in their respective categories. Jessica Roy, 18, placed 1st in Females 16 to 19 years, with a time of 28:52. Migel Ybarra, 23, placed 1st in Male 20-24 years old with a time of 23:14.
Those adults from Altus placing 3rd or better were: Brenna Naff, with a time of 25:26, placing 2nd in the Female 20-24 category; Cindy Caldera, with 30:09 placed 3rd in Female 30-34; in the Female 45-49, Laura Hughes ran the race in 31:58, making her 3rd in her category.
Not counting all the Super Kids at ACA, Altus had about 30 race participants. For race times for participants from other towns, see the online race results web site above.
