Annual Chili Cook-Off set for next Saturday, Oct. 6

It’s time once again for the annual Main Street Altus “Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off”. This year’s event is set for Saturday, Oct. 6 in downtown Altus, and will offer trophies and cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners in each division. Not only can individuals, groups and businesses enter the contest, but those attending the event can buy tasting bowls to go around and try all the varieties of chili offered. Aside from chili, there will also be categories for barbecue and salsa. There will also be prizes given for booths, includiig spirit awards, so come up with a theme and act it out with costumes and booth decorations. Awards will be announced from the stage at 1 p.m.

Other special attractions in downtown Altus that day will include a miniature cotton gin display, antique tractors and farm equipment displays, Livingston Machinery and Western Equipment displays, the Altus Fire Department, pedal tractors, a petting zoo, wagon rides, stick horse races, a watermelon seed spitting contest, pony rides, iron works and horseshoeing displays, face painting, Lil Red the Clown, JB Moon Jump, Slice and Rock Wall, as well as several vendor booths.

There will also be local entertainment from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
