In 1987 Harvest for the Hungry started as an effort to restock the Community Cupboard. Duinr the 2011 Harvest, caring people donated 13,280 items to the Cupboard. Thirty youth and adult groups are joining together to conduct the 2012 Harvest for the Hungry for the Community Cupboard (which is a division of the Association of Christian Ministries, Inc. (ACMI) has served some 3,000 people per year since its inception.
The Harvest is hoping for 15,000 items to be donated by the good citizens this year. The food bags will be dropped off at homes on Saturday, Nov. 3 and picked up again on Saturday Nov. 10. Altus Mayor David Webb proclaimed Nov. 3 through the 10 as “Harvest for the Hungry Week”. He encourages the people of Altus and Jackson County “to generously support this worthy project which provides food for those less fortunate.”
