Replanking work by BNSF railroad will create a weeklong, around the clock closure in Vernon, Texas. The crossing is located on US 283 just North of US 287. Since the job involves two tracks, it is expected to take five days to complete.

The closure will start Monday, Oct. 29, and should reopen by Friday, Nov. 2. US 283 will be closed around the clock in both directions only at the construction site. No traffic will be able to get through. However, local residents will be able to access their property along US 283 North and South of the work zone.

A signed detour will be in place to get freeway motorists around the construction. However, local residents are highly encouraged to avoid the area if possible or find their own detour.

Poor weather can delay this type of work. The site will be opened to travel as soon as safely possible.
