Citizenship programs to be held this week

The Great Plains Literacy Council and the Southern Prairie Library System will host several citizenship programs and activities this Wednesday and Thursday at the Altus Public Library, 421 N. Hudson.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Community Relations Officer Jesus Ramirez from the Regional Office in Dallas will be conducting “Immigration 101 in English” at the Altus Public Library about the green cards, immigration, and citizenship and taking questions from the audience on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. Then on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m., he will make “Immigration 101 in Spanish” about the same topics.

Also on Thursday, “Citizenship Celebration” will be held to honor adult learners who became new U.S. citizens in the past year. Family and friends of the 21 honoree are invited to attend the 11 a.m., or 5 p.m. ceremonies. Immigration officer Jesus Ramirez will be making presentation to the honorees while the staff members assist with the program.
