Velma worked as a secretary at Western Oklahoma State College in the Flying Department and Child Development Center, but she also took great pride in being a homemaker to her family. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Methodist Women and the Silver Belles. Velma loved reading and growing flowers, especially iris and was a member of the Iris Club for many years. She adored her family and devoted time and love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge and dancing at the nursing homes with the Silver Belles. People in the community knew Spring was coming when they saw Velma riding her bike. She is going to be sorely missed by the many family and friends she leaves behind.
Velma is survived by four children, Rhana True and husband Jim of Norman, Kathy Bayers and husband Jim of Altus, Kevin Robison and wife Kim of Sugarland, Texas, and Mark Robison and wife Jana of Midlothian, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy; one daughter, Patricia Canada; a granddaughter, Lisa Wadsack; grandson, Greg Canada; and her brother, Dr. Clarence Shields, Jr.
