Family “Get InvolvED” night planned for Tuesday, March 5

Altus Public Schools and Altus Air Force Base are working together to host a Family/Community “Getting InvolvED” night for parents and guardians of Altus students. This event will be held in the cafeteria at Altus High School on Tuesday, March 5.

The Altus Kiwanis Club will be serving a free hot dog supper for participants from 6:00–6:45 p.m. After the supper, three 30-minute break-out sessions will be presented, offering information for parents. Childcare will be provided.

The following break-out sessions will be provided:

First Session: 6:50–7:20 p.m.

• Bullying: “Peacemaker or Trouble Maker: Bullying Prevention Education”

• Common Core State Standards: “What is it and how does it affect my child’s education?”

• Drug Education: “Informative Information for all School Ages”

• Emotion Regulation: “Keep the Calm, Prevent the Storm”

Second Session: 7:25–7:55 p.m.

• Bullying: “Peacemaker or Trouble Maker: Bullying Prevention Education”

• Post Secondary Training: “What’s Next…Vocational/College Preparation?”

• Child Nutrition: “Raising Healthy Kids!”

• Drug Education: “Informative Information for all School Ages”

Third Session: 8–8:30 p.m.

• Emotion Regulation: “Keep the Calm, Prevent the Storm”

• Family Communication: “Let’s Talk: Keeping the Lines of Communication Open”

• Internet Safety: “Surfing Safely: How to Keep Your Kids Safe on the Internet”

• Post Secondary Training: “What’s Next…Vocational/College Preparation?”

All parents, guardians, and interested adults in the lives of school-aged children are invited and encouraged to attend the “Get InvolvED” sessions. No registration is necessary.
