Upon graduation, she moved to the Los Angeles, Calif. area where she began working for UCLA Regional Hospital in the surgery department and witnessed some of the first open heart surgeries. There, she also met and married Joe Greenlee a machinist for McDonald Douglas Aircraft. She later left the hospital and began employment with McDonald Douglas as a company Nurse and continued that role when they moved to London, England with the company.
After returning to California, they bought a farm near Holdenville until their retirement in 1995. During that time, Norma worked as a nurse for the Hughes County Health Department, the Holdenville General Hospital and Carl Albert Mental Health Clinic.
Norma was a member of the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church, serving on various committees, member of the Alpha Mothers Club and Member of the Holdenville VFW auxiliary, and a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary affiliated with Holdenville General Hospital, serving as president until her illness.
Norma is survived by one daughter, Joy Ellen and husband Milton Johnson of Wetumka; two sons, Joe (Jay) and wife Tonya Greenlee of Perry, and Jeff and wife Lisa Greenlee of Altus; eight grandchildren, Zac Greenlee of Wetumka, Jon and wife Stacy Greenlee of Colorado Springs, Colo., Adam Greenlee of Las Vegas, Matt Greenlee of Stillwater, Todd Greenlee, Alex Greenlee of Norman, Angela Brooks of Wetumka and Adam Johnson of Springfield, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Brooks, Siera Greenlee and Vanessa Cormier, and one more great-granddaughter on the way; two brothers, Louis Dodson and Robert and wife Margret Dodson; and one sister, Helen and husband Melvin Leake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Rettig officiating. Pallbearers will be Norma’s grandchildren, Zac, Matt, Adam, Alex, Todd Greenlee and Dakota Brooks. Honorary bearers will be Jon Greenlee and Milton Johnson. Interment will be at the Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson - Phillips Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
