A Sunday Afternoon Concert (SAM) is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 208 East Cypress in Altus. The public is invited to come and listen to the music of yesteryear performed by local talented musicians from five Altus churches. Many have college music degrees. Some are retired teachers, and all perform locally.

Since 1979, the Cameron University Alumni Association (CUAA) has honored more than 200 individuals with awards honoring Distinguished Alumni, Outstanding Young Alumni and Faculty Hall of Fame. The CUAA is seeking nominations for the 2024 awards, which will continue to celebrate alumni whose accomplishments honor the legacy of Cameron University and to recognize faculty members who have a positive impact on student lives.

The Cameron University Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts will present guest artist Philip Martinson on trombone on Thursday, October 26. The recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in McCutcheon Recital Hall. The recital will feature the works of composer Brian Sadler, a Musician First Class and trombonist/ arranger in the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands. Dr. Lucas Kaspar, an assistant professor of music at CU, will join Martinson for two selections. All works on the recitals will use pre-recorded accompaniment, including natural and synthetic sounds.

The Oklahoma State School Boards Association is hosting five virtual information sessions for Oklahomans interested in serving on a local school board. The first three “So You Want to be a School Board Member?” sessions – at 6 p.m.

Cameron University’s Visiting Writer’s Series kicks off on Friday, October 20, with novelist Rilla Askew and author/ poet Paul Austin. The writers will read samples of their work starting at 7 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex.
