Siblings share musical talents during Red Kettle event

The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Drive is in full swing, and volunteers have been out ringing the bell to help raise money for families in need this holiday season. Sharing their musical talents at a Red Kettle event recently in Altus were siblings Benjamin, Lydia, and Daniel Marx. Benjamin and Lydia played Christmas music on the violin while Daniel joined in with jingle bells.

A CDC food safety alert regarding an outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to cantaloupes has been updated: https:// www.cdc.gov/salmonella/ sundsvall-11-23/index.html Key Points: • Since the last update on November 24, 2023, an additional 18 people infected with this outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from two additional states, resulting in a total case count of 117 people from 34 states. • Interviews with sick people and laboratory findings continue to show that cantaloupes are making people in this outbreak sick.

Auditions for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute are now open

High school actors, photographers, dancers, singers, writers, visual artists, filmmakers, and musicians are invited to apply and audition for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain (OSAI), Oklahoma’s one-of-akind arts education program. Applications and auditions for all disciplines are now submitted entirely online.

Operation Christmas Child volunteers send Christmas joy to children overseas

Area volunteers are celebrating the collection of giftfi lled shoeboxes that will send a message of joy to children around the world: God loves you, and you’re not forgotten! This year, tens of thousands of volunteers contributed to Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, by packing shoeboxes filled with fun toys, school supplies, and personal care items. The global Christmas project will deliver these gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 100 countries, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster.
