Bobbing for suitors

Body
The other day I read an interesting blog about bobbing for apples on my favorite Victorian clothing site, recollections.biz. I’ve never thought much about the fall party tradition of bobbing for apples. I always just assumed it was a children’s game and had always been such.

Body

Comments on the stories posted to social media usually range from indignation at the very thought of moving Halloween, to those who agree with the petitions, stating that children shouldn’t be out on a school night, and a few who knew why the date shouldn’t be changed, and that is because it’s All Hallows Eve. Not because it’s a hundreds of years old tradition, but an actual religious holiday.

Autumn is synonymous with pumpkins

Body
Pumpkins are grown in Oklahoma for both fresh and processing markets and can be grown in all areas of the state, unlike other fruits and vegetables, including other members of the squash family. According to an article from the Oklahoma State University Extension Office, these crops prefer low humidity conditions due to lower incidence of fruit and foliar disease. In general, cucurbits such as squash and pumpkin perform best during warm weather, flowering and fruiting during the heat of summer, making June or July the best time for planting pumpkins.
