TSET Health Promotion Research Center Postdoc receives an NIH Diversity Supplement

Laili K. Boozary, PhD, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and her mentor, Jason A. Oliver, PhD, a researcher at the HPRC, recently received a diversity supplement for $109,638 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE – Airmen from Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, traveled to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the 2023 Experimental Aviation Association AirVenture Air Show from July 24-30, 2023. While the AirVenture show was celebrating 70 years, this year marked the first time the Air Education and Training Command was highlighted as the feature command.

Altus Cotton Producer Mark Nichols to serve as Chairman of Cotton Board

The Cotton Board recently held its 2023 Annual Meeting in Durham, North Carolina, along with Cotton Incorporated’s Board of Directors. During this meeting, board members serving the Cotton Research and Promotion Program reviewed, analyzed, and voted to recommend Cotton Incorporated’s 2024 budget of $89 million to the Secretary of Agriculture. This budget recommendation reflects a $2 million increase from 2023.

WOSC Agriculture receives research grant

Western Oklahoma State College is proud to partner with Oklahoma State University, Northern Oklahoma College, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Louisiana State University, receiving grant funding from the National Science Foundation to focus on the effects of climate change in rural communities throughout the United States due to their strong dependence on natural resources. This project will substantially advance rural climate resilience research and generate lasting improvements in rural STEM opportunities.

Every Litter Bit Hurts and the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) Litter Education program is working hard to spread that message to Oklahoma students in public, private, and parochial institutions, as well as those who are home-schooled. Participants from extracurricular activities outside of school settings are also encouraged to participate!

Outlaw Bill Doolin killed in Oklahoma

On Aug. 25, 1896, a posse that was after William “Bill” Doolin killed him in Lawson, Okla. Doolin was born and raised in Arkansas, but decided to head west when he was 23 in 1881. He found work in Oklahoma at the ranch of Oscar D. Halswell, who took a liking to Doolin, even going as far as teaching him to read and do math and making him “informal foreman” of his ranch.
