SWRE to host annual meeting at two locations

Governor Stitt appoints new district judge

Governor Kevin Stitt appointed Rafe Hall to serve as the District Judge for the Third Judicial District which includes Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, and Tillman Counties. Judge Hall graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1990 with a degree in Organizational Administration and a minor in Marketing before earning his juris doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1994.

According to the Oklahoma Association of Optometry, 80% of all learning is visual, and simple vision screenings (like the kind schools provide) may not detect some vision problems that can impact health and learning.
High winds and soaring temperatures don’t deter jump school students from earning wings

The World War II Airborne Demonstration team hosted their Summer Jump School July 14-22, 2023. Despite soaring temperatures and high winds, 17 students persevered and earned their wings.
Lizzie Borden’s parents found murdered

On Aug. 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden’s parents were found murdered. Andrew and Abby Borden were found hacked to death in their Fall River, Massachusetts home. Lizzie’s father was found in a pool of blood on the living room couch, his face nearly split in two, according to police documents. Abby was upstairs, her head smashed to pieces; it was later determined that she was killed first.

Altus Swim Coach, Linda Wiginton was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 22, 2023, an honor earned from a lifetime dedicated to the student-athletes of Altus High School.
Altus student succeeds in summer work program

Sabrina Bertram from Altus successfully completed a statewide summer employment program that led to paychecks and valuable work experience through the BEST STEP summer employment program. Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services’ Transition program and OU National Center for Disability Education and Training’s Pre-Employment Transition Services offered BEST STEP for students with disabilities free of charge in 27 cities across the state in June and July.

Duke Resident Turns 106

Cleo West Andrus Bearden, long time resident of Duke, celebrated her 106th birthday with family and friends on Thursday July 27. Duke has joined in celebrating with Cleo in the past giving her a parade by her house.
