Fall foliage walks offered at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reguge

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of the Wichitas will be conducting interpretive “Fall Foliage Walks” on Saturday, November 18 and 25, 2023, at 10:00 am. Reservations are required and are taken by phone or in person on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Monday, November 6, 2023. Fall Foliage Walks will take participants to select locations on the refuge to see maples, oaks, and sumac as they display beautiful fall foliage with the Wichita Mountains as a picturesque backdrop. Tour participants will learn about native vegetation and seasonal cycles that produce this outstanding scenery. Members from the Friends of the Wichitas serve as Interpretive guides for the tours.

Lankford sounds alarm over new Medicaid rule that risks disrupting patient care

Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Mike Crapo (R-ID), along with other Republican members of the Senate Finance Committee, urged the Biden Administration to withdraw problematic components of a recently proposed rule and work with Congress to develop improvements to the Medicaid program so patients have access to cuttingedge, life-saving prescription drugs. In a concerning departure from precedent, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a rule to change Medicaid Drug Rebate Program (MDRP) operations in ways that offer no material benefit for patients.

Etiquette or common courtesy?

My favorite part of the school year has arrived. Musicals, Holiday concerts, Christmas recitals, oh my. Anyone who knows me knows that I love attending theatre and music events. It doesn’t matter whether they’re through community theatres, school music programs, or private studio recitals. However, some of my enjoyment and the enjoyment of those around me at these events are dampened when people don’t follow simple etiquette rules.

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) joined Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) to lead a bipartisan group of Senators in asking two federal agencies to give farmers and ranchers more time to review and comment on significant reforms to the H-2A temporary agricultural workers program, which the Oklahoma agricultural community continues to rely on.

Altus High School production of “Oklahoma!” scheduled for Nov. 16-17

Oklahoma! is the first musical written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The play is set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906. It tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and the courtship between Laurey and two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and farmhand Jud Fry. Cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie, are a secondary love story in the musical. She is courted by the equally flirtatious peddler, Ali Hakim, while poor Parker is off in Kansas City.

Altus residents receive Oklahoma Bar Association Awards

Waldo Talmage Oden Jr. and Grant E. Kincannon will receive awards during the Oklahoma Bar Association’s 119th Annual Meeting, to be held Nov. 1-3 at the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City. The awards are two of 17 to be given to recipients from across the state during the three-day event. Award winners were selected by the OBA Awards Committee from nominations submitted by Oklahomans across the state.
