Ijust want to start off by saying, “God is good!”

Over in Luke 10, Luke writes about two sisters, Martha and Mary. Lazarus was their brother.

Let’s look at Luke 10:38-42, Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”

But the Lord answered and said to her, “ Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (nasb) This story of Martha and Mary is one of my favorites. They considered Jesus their dear friend. Y’all no doubt remember that Jesus would later return to bring Lazarus back to life after having been in the grave for four days. But that’s a story for another time.

Martha was a hard worker; she had a good heart and she loved Jesus. She was talented at getting the job done. She was an organizer and was considered very dependable. But she was a bit uptight at times; it seems she worried and fretted. It was important to her to get the work done!

In the scripture, Martha was so concerned about getting everything done and having a meal ready to eat that she was upset that her sister wasn’t helping her. After all, Mary was only sitting there listening to Jesus and there was so much work to be done.

She was only sitting there listening to Jesus. How many times have we failed to just sit there and listen to Jesus? Oh sure, we talk to Him when we need something; but do we ever just sit down and listen to Him?

Mary had set her priorities on listening to what her Lord had to say. She was just sitting there and listening to Jesus. She was spending her time worshipping her Lord! Mary was more relational; she felt that being near Jesus was more important than being busy for Jesus.

But isn’t it important to have a “servant” attitude and work for the Lord? Aren’t we supposed to be busy doing good things? Of course! But He first wants us to have a relationship with Him.

We sometimes get like Martha. Are the song books properly arranged? Are the chairs all straight? Do all the light bulbs in the sanctuary light up?

But Jesus wants us to spend time with Him. He wants us to be happy! My favorite painting of Jesus is when He is laughing with children gathered round. I don’t know anything else about it other than Jesus is laughing. He wants us to be happy in our relationship with Him.

But for generations the church has been taught that we are to be reverent and that included no laughing. We are to worship God with our all. We are to serve Him! And He wants us to have joy as we ride down His trail! Be Happy!

Choose Jesus, choose life! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! Tell others! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! And y’all KEEP PRAYIN’ for RAIN! Amen.
